Communications SpecialistUSE Credit Union, San Diego, CA
Overview
Are you Service-Driven and Innovative? USE’s marketing team is the perfect place for you! As a Communications Specialist, you’ll have a chance to serve as the primary writer for all corporate communications, both internal and external. Do you have what it takes?Responsibilities
• Writes and edits key messages (internal and external) to communicate the USE Credit Union brand in a clear and professional manner to associates, members, and the public.
• Internal communications will include, but are not limited to, emails to all employees, FAQs and/or scripts for the Contact Center and frontline staff, department forms, associate and manager handbooks, and speeches for executive staff for company events.
• External communications will include, but are not limited to, brochures, postcards, member notices/letters, statement messages, statement inserts, an annual report, articles for CAPs/SEG newsletters, and speeches for executive staff for public events.
• Develops and manages an annual public relations plan that includes press releases, press kit materials, interviews between reporters and USE staff, advertorials, and internal Public Relations.
• Manages relationship with external Public Relations firm.
• Executes comprehensive communication plans and a variety of communications-related projects and initiatives, including product rollouts, product discontinuations, annual privacy policy forms, merger materials, card compromise information, etc.
• Ensures all written communication supports the name and brand identity of the organization, including communications from other departments (Business Technology, Lending, Financial Solutions, Operations, Human Resources, etc.).
• Oversees development and distribution of member educational materials and financial seminars.
• Works with the Marketing and Digital Services teams to develop messaging for individual products, contests, kits, etc. and develop publicity campaigns to support the same.
• Manages the relationships with external vendors and freelance writers to ensure that materials and projects are executed in an effective and timely manner, as well as within budget.
• Writes, edits, and produces a monthly employee email newsletter.
• Manages communications and distribution of third-party products to members.
• Develops strong relationships throughout organization to ensure key deliverables are met and effective teamwork is enabled.
• Collaborates closely with the Vice President of Marketing and Chief Experience Officer to deliver the highest quality publications and materials possible, on time and within budget.
• Manages an annual Communications budget and approves department projects and invoices within assigned limits.
• Coordinates production and delivery of monthly statement messages and inserts with mailhouse.
• Works with Risk Management/Compliance team on annual publications that include privacy policies, an annual meeting notice, agreement and disclosures booklets, and fee schedules.
• This position will not have direct reports, but will supervise third-party vendors and project teams as assigned.Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or relevant academic emphasis is required. Minimum three to five years of communications experience, with strong emphasis on public relations, customer service, internal communications, and compliance.
• Candidate must have strong written, verbal, spelling and proofreading skills. Requires excellent writing, editing and communication skills.
• Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. Ability to think strategically, as well as tactically.
• To perform this job, the employee must possess applicable technology skills. Strong phone and MS Office skills (including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and the ability to learn new programs as applicable. Must be proficient in desktop publishing environments, and have strong word processing skills. Knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, and In Design is a plus.
• Ability to travel and support after-hours and weekend events on occasion.
• Ability to effectively coordinate efforts through a diverse internal and external team. Must be self-directed with the ability to prioritize and multi-task, organize and meet scheduled deadlines and handle a variety of tasks concurrently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Superior project management, planning and organizational skills are preferred. • Manages and develops marketing programs and materials such as direct mail, digital advertising, email, event support and promotions.
• Coordinates creative direction of promotional materials as required. Including but not limited to display materials, branch promotional signage, collateral, statement inserts, email marketing, advertising, etc.
• Ensures the USE Credit Union brand is maintained and that materials are compliant with credit union policy and financial institution regulations.
• Ensures distribution of marketing materials to all branches and sources as required in a timely and effective manner. Responsible for coordinating inventory of all marketing materials with Facilities for future distribution to branches.
• Works with the team to create digital campaigns in support of overarching marketing and organization-wide goals.
• Manages website updates and coordinates with outside departments to ensure accuracy of product information and compliance.
• Works with website vendor to ensure company websites follow website design best practices, is kept up to date and is reflective of the USE Credit Union brand at all times.
• Works with Digital Banking Product Manager to develop strategic recommendations for website updates and the implementation of new technologies.
• Responsible for managing USE Credit Union’s social media presence. Including follower engagement, promotional posts, contest, collateral development and on-call complaint resolution. Maintains a monthly calendar of posts and shifts topics to ensure relevant and timely interactions with followers.
• Communicates marketing promotions to all employees through accurate development of Marketing Communication Briefs. Works closely with marketing staff and department managers to ensure factual information and continuity of articles.
• Manages ATM screen and digital signage content production for the retail branch network and related marketing partners.
• Manages the ordering, inventory, delivery and in some cases the installation of retail/partner marketing collateral (including digital signage) for branches, business development, lending, and other departments as needed.
• Directs vendors and agencies as required to attain quality/cost goals and meet goals and performance requirements.
• Manages the ordering, inventory and distribution of promotional items and premium items to branches and departments.
• Provides marketing support and development of materials for internal departments as needed.

Strong digital skills including proficiency with multiple social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Twitter, SnapChat, Yelp, Google+, etc), MS Office skills (including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and the ability to learn new programs as applicable. SeaWest is seeking an experienced Trainer to assist in optimizing our employee performance and effectiveness.
Responsibilities:
- Implement and maintain the Credit Union’s master training plan.
- Assess training needs. Develop and implement training initiatives. Assist in the design of curriculum and training materials.
- Develop and conduct an employee orientation program to ensure a positive onboarding experience for new staff.
- Support the management team with on-the-job training designed to further employees’ core competencies and technical skills in their specific job functions.
- Assist in furthering a sales and service culture designed to support growth initiatives while providing exceptional products and services to members.
- Track the progress of trainees through testing, observation, and feedback from managers. Evaluate the effectiveness of current training programs.
- Administer learning management system; maintain online directory of training modules/courses. Recommend training resources to support training initiatives.
Requirements:
- Associate degree or equivalent experience in education and training.
- Minimum two (2) years of related job experience. Credit Union experience is a definite plus.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft, Word, Outlook, Excel & PowerPoint
- Experience in effectively utilizing a Learning Management System
